Forget SPL charts and a bunch of other hand-wringing, time-wasting nonsense ; }

For bass guitar or keys or drums or e-drums the fEARful puts meat down there where it can be heard as a bass function, and you are not going to get that from -- that other thing. Bass without guts is fine if the PA is supplying that for you via backwash or hugs sidefills, but if you go to jams and gigs and hate to sound emasculated the f word is the answer.

Bass is where EQ is the least effective with many designs, since they just don't have much to work with down there and often use drivers that run out of xmax too early. Anyway, if you measured SPL in the range electric bass needs it, with the distribution that favors it, that would be one thing. Just having tons of SPL above that but not much in the rich range doesn't make a good bass rig.
